Traditional Lime Rendering · Reydon, Suffolk · 2023

A Considered Transformation at Rush Cottage

Rissemere Lane, Reydon · Near Southwold

BeforeAfter

At Rush Cottage, near the Suffolk coast, a modest exterior renovation has given part of this traditional property a fresh, understated finish.

Previously finished in weathered yellow paint over brickwork, the single-storey section was transformed with a softly textured, light-coloured lime render, sitting comfortably alongside the cottage’s traditional pantile roof and existing architectural character.

Beneath the Surface

An important part of the work lies beneath the finished appearance.

Photographs taken during the project show wood-wool-type render carrier boards, mechanically fixed and reinforced at the joints to provide a suitable substrate for the subsequent render application.

The resulting finish creates a more cohesive appearance while retaining the individual character of the surrounding building.

A relatively small project, but a good illustration of the preparation, material knowledge and attention to detail involved in traditional lime plastering.
